Where Eagles Dare<\/strong><\/em> is a 1968 action adventure<\/a> war film<\/a> directed by Brian G. Hutton<\/a> and starring Richard Burton<\/a>, Clint Eastwood<\/a> and Mary Ure<\/a>. Set during World War II<\/a>, it follows a Special Operations Executive<\/a> team charged with saving a captured American General from the fictional Schlo\u00df Adler<\/em> fortress, except the mission turns out not to be as it seems. It was filmed in Panavision<\/a> using the Metrocolor<\/a> process, and was distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer<\/a>. Alistair MacLean<\/a> wrote the screenplay, his first, at the same time that he wrote the novel of the same name. Both became commercial successes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film involved some of the top filmmakers of the day and was shot on location in Austria<\/a>.
